This factsheet considers the viability of exercises to incentivise members of defined benefit schemes to transfer out or otherwise reduce their liabilities. It concludes that such exercises are often best targeted towards a possibly small number of individuals where such a transaction is likely to be in both the sponsor's and their own interests.
