DB schemes exempt from ban on gender-based pricing

The European Commission has confirmed that its ban on pricing annuities based on gender will not apply to occupational DB schemes.

Occupational pension schemes are covered by Directive 2006/54/EC. Under this Directive, setting benefit provisions that differentiate between men and women in occupational pensions is not considered discriminatory where it is justified by actuarial data.
